The end of December is a festive time, and as snow begins to fall, with holidays around the corner, winter sweaters come out of the closet, and most importantly, BCA students get a break from school. But what are the many things that can be done over Holiday Break? We, at the Academy Chronicle, wanted to investigate what Holiday Break means to students at BCA and what do they do.
Caroline Virone, freshman, said, “It’s a time to hang out with people, see friends.”
She laughed, and added, “I procrastinate: I do not do all of the work until the last few days, but yeah, hanging out with friends!”
Virone isn’t the only one who feels Holiday Break is about getting together with wonderful people.
From 100 students who participated in a poll conducted at BCA asking “What is holiday break for you?” the majority of students said “a time to hang out with friends.” Tied for second place was “sleep, sleep, and more sleep” and “vacation!” Last place: “catching up on homework.”
“Everyone’s really happy and we get to wear warm sweaters. I love Christmas lights, too.”
A trend in other responses included completing college applications. One student said, “College apps!! hope I’ll get some sleep though. Plus family time when I can make some time for them.”
Another student said, holiday break is about, “A change of scenery. Going somewhere but while there, still catching up on homework and studying.”
Other responses included destinations of travel, lists of homework that has to be done, and the brands of ice cream that were to be eaten, most commonly “Ben and Jerry’s.”
Sarah Chowdhury, freshman, said, “I like to read and I’m planning on finishing the book 3,096 Days over the break. Going places with my family and seeing relatives in other states is also fun.”
About the holiday season she added, “I love driving past all the houses with a bunch of lights strung on. I think they’re really pretty. Also, I just moved into my new house so this break will also be just about meeting new people and getting accustomed.”
Sophomore Anna Brevetti laughed when asked what holiday break was about, just smiled and said, “Sleeing, because I don’t get to do it very often. Everyone’s really happy and we get to wear warm sweaters. I love Christmas lights, too. ” She then added, “Happy holidays!”
Holiday Break is a special time of the year that combines many different things. Whether you are planning on traveling across the globe, or staying cosy at home, we at the Academy Chronicle wish you a very happy Holiday Break, whatever that may mean to you. Happy Holidays!
