The ultimate battle against Video Games vs. Board Games began at Bergen County Academies amongst the students with a survey that the Academy Chronicle launched to the students. At BCA, a passion for games runs deep and a recent survey of 66 students shows just how diverse our gaming interests can be. From intense video game sessions late at night to lively board game marathons on weekends, it’s clear that there’s something for everyone whether you’re a digital warrior or a board game strategist.
Almost every respondent, 65 out of 66, spoke highly in favor of video games. Students love the thrill of the immersive digital worlds, cool graphics, and the chance to play online with friends. Popular games like Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite, and Call of Duty made frequent appearances in the survey responses. One student had even said that they play video games “Whenever I have time to,” which just shows how accessible these games are in our busy lives. Video games are played on a variety of platforms like Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. This variety lets us pick the perfect gaming experience for every mood. Whether we want to jump into an action-packed adventure or explore creative worlds.
Though video games dominate the digital world, board games also have a special place in our hearts. About 31 out of the 66 students said they enjoy board games. This proves that even in today’s digital age, the charm of gathering around a table is alive and well. Classics like Monopoly, Chess, Snakes and Ladders continue to be favorites. Board games are highly known for sparking face-to-face interactions and friendly competitions. One respondent even mentioned that playing board games helps them take a break from screens. These games remind us of the importance of socializing and bonding with our friends and family in a more traditional, firsthand way.
The survey also gave us an overview of our gaming schedules. A majority of the students mentioned that they tend to play “Late at night” and “Only on Weekends.” Many noted that they also game “During Holidays” or whenever they have a break from schoolwork. This trend shows that gaming is more than just a hobby, it is a way to unwind after a long day at BCA.
Interestingly, a significant number of students enjoy both video games and board games. Nearly half of the survey participants mentioned playing both types of games. Which tells us that the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Instead, they give us different experiences that can complement each other. Video games provide fast-paced excitement and a sense of adventure in vast, digital universes, while board games offer the warmth of in-person interaction and strategic, slower-paced fun.
The great battle of Video Games vs. Board Games isn’t really about which one is better than the other. It’s more about what kind of experience you’re after. Do you want to dive into a digital realm filled with endless challenges or do you want a physical and social experience of board game night? At BCA, many of us find joy in both, tailoring out gaming choices to fit our moods and schedules.
In the end, whether you’re logging on for an epic session on Minecraft or setting up a board game for a fun evening with friends or family, games are a huge part of our lives here at Bergen County Academies. They offer a perfect blend of excitement, creativity, and social interaction which can brighten even the toughest school day. So, next time someone asks you to choose between video games and board games, you can proudly say, “Why not both?”
